North Brisbane Rugby Academy 2008 Season There are 3 specialized personal trainers that run the academy and all the trainers bring a different set of skills and knowledge to help you achieve your goals. The trainers for 2008 are Leighton Higgo, Corey Hagell and Matt Bushell. Leighton Higgo who does work with the reds academy and spectrum gym. Corey Hagell who plays top division soccer in Brisbane and also does rehabilitation work with the Brisbane lions and also does personal training at spectrum gym. Matt Bushell has a background in soccer and is also a personal trainer at spectrum gym. The first block of the academy ran
for 9 weeks focusing on fitness and muscular endurance. The second block which
runs from January through to the end of February focuses on strength and speed.
The Academy has been very successful! In the past, however players feedback was
that they were feeling 'over trained'. We have compensated for that this year by
cutting out football related drills. Essentially that means that in the Academy
we do our strength in the gym and our fitness work on the field without touching
a football. Although the drills are still related to rugby it's not a
rugby overload. We think this is very important so players stay fresh and don't
burn out throughout the season.
The cost is $100 per person and includes full academy uniform, entry to the gym and the use of these trainers twice a week for seven weeks. This is a massive saving for this type of training and we hope you will take advantage of the knowledge and skills these personal trainers bring. If you are interested in joining there's still time!! click here. We will supply a uniform that must be worn at all times during training in the gymnasium. If you do not have the uniform you will not be allowed to enter the gym. This is a condition of entry from Kedron AFL as it is their gym which we are using. "The Rugby Academy
was exactly what I was looking for to increase my strength and fitness for the
upcoming season. To tell you the truth I was a bit skeptical about joining
because our season is long as it is and I didn't want to 'burn out' before the
end of the season. However, I am so glad I joined because this isn't like any
pre-season I have done before, this is like having personal training sessions at
a gym. We haven't touched a football so it doesn't feel like it's football
training. That might sound a bit silly but it means when club training starts I
will still be fresh but the difference is I will be a lot fitter and stronger!"
