WAVELL STATE HIGH SCHOOL MASSACRES SIENNA COLLEGE IN BALLYMORE CUP FINAL

In a breathtaking display of raw power and tremendous skill, Qld Schoolboy rugby League powerhouse Wavell State High School defeated the Sunshine Coast’s Sienna College 71 -30 in the Ballymore Cup Rugby Union State Final on Saturday.

Coached by North Brisbane Rugby Club President Chris Roche, Wavell State High School were simply far too good for a Sienna College that battled manfully but could do nothing to stop the onslaught of marauding Wavell attackers who launched raids from everywhere, ignoring field position for ball in hand.

This is the second year in succession that Wavell State High School has gone through the  Statewide Ballymore Cup  undefeated under the guidance of Chris Roche, Wavell’s Mick Taylor and Norths Rugby and Wavell’s Trainer Mick Rutter.

In the Semi-Final on Friday afternoon Wavell State High School had to fight hard to overcome a very determined Downlands College 36-27.

Winning back to back State Championships was a fitting farewell to Mick Rutter who has devoted over ten successive years to Wavell State High School Rugby League program and who is now embarking on a campervan trip around Australia with his wife Christine.

We also wish Mick and Christine a great trip and thank him for all the years he has devoted to Norths Rugby Club.

He will be sorely missed.
